Usool Al-Fiqh
For advanced students, this course offers an in-depth exploration of the foundational principles of Islamic jurisprudence. Designed for those who have completed Arabic 301 or an equivalent course, this program will guide you through the methodology used to derive legal rulings from the Qur'an and Sunnah. You will study key concepts such as Ijma' (consensus), Qiyas (analogy), Istihsan (juridical preference), and the principles of Islamic legal theory. With a focus on the processes of deduction and reasoning, you’ll learn how scholars approach the application of Islamic law in a variety of contexts.
This course will deepen your understanding of the intellectual framework behind Islamic rulings, preparing you to engage critically with classical and contemporary fiqh issues. By the end, you will have the tools to navigate complex legal discussions and contribute to the preservation and evolution of Islamic jurisprudence.
